About the sand dunes

The sand, which is responsible for the interesting view from the balconies of Golden Dunes Aparthotel, is not just ordinary sand.
It is a curious natural landmark called "Sand Dunes MMC" and received this protected status by Order of the Council of Ministers in 1984.
These are immobile coastal dunes of the species Southern Black Sea Grey (association Aurinio uechtritziani-Artemisietum campestris), stabilized and colonized by diverse populations of predominantly perennial herbaceous plants, including rare, unique species. Protect them! With this purpose in mind, the wooden grids that serve as a path to the beach have been placed.

The Surroundings
The closest, of course, is the beach. In the long cold months, everyone dreams of the summer days when they will lie on the fine sand, the sun caressing their skin, the sea enveloping their body with a pleasant coolness, and their eyes soaring through the endless blue. This pleasure does not get old, but the active person needs more impressions and experiences. In this context, the Golden Dunes Hotel can be a starting point for a variety of interesting goals and memorable activities. When it comes to activities, let's start with the most typical one - the wind of Devil's Bay, whose tireless action is responsible for the formation of the dunes in front of us. It's no coincidence that this place has been a draw for surf and kite enthusiasts for years. For beginners in the morning - when the sea is calm, and for advanced surfers in the afternoon - our beach is ideal. Ask at Reception for lessons and equipment hire. For those who have their own, we have a secure luggage room.

The dunes are not the only curious natural landmark in the area. Every traveler should see how the River meets the Sea at least once in his life. The mouth of the Devil's River in the hotel's area is beautiful and interesting, but what really should not be missed is the Ropotamo Nature Reserve - one of the most beautiful but also most endangered protected areas in Bulgaria. It is home to many unique natural sites:

The liman and the flood terrace with natural longleaved forests of field ash, field beech, black alder and liana plants; sand dunes and beach strip; deciduous forests of Mediterranean type; Arcutino marsh; rock formations - 'Lion's Head', 'The Merry Rock', steep rocky and terraced shores and narrow deep bays; St. Thomas Island (Snake Island) - a small rocky island with Mediterranean-type vegetation, including cacti of the genus Opuntia.

Ask at Reception to arrange itineraries and boat trips on the Ropotamo. There is hardly a guest of Golden Dunes so far who has missed another nearby attraction - the earliest open Thracian megalithic sanctuary in southeastern Thrace and on the Black Sea coast, called Beglik Tash. Huge chunks of rock, worked by human hand and arranged in a symbolic sense, and around them - a protective barrier of dense, wild vegetation, inhabited by birds and insects. The most inexhaustible source of routes that you will have to come back to us for again and again is the Strandzha National Nature Park. Our most beautiful and most unexplored mountain with thousands of years of history. There you will find natural, historical and architectural landmarks, fairs and festivals, culinary delights as well as opportunities for unforgettable outdoor activities. Ask at the Reception about bike hire and cycle routes, and find ideas of exactly where to go in Strandzha here.
